The No. 22 Washington Huskies softball team lost to No. 7 UCLA by a score of 7-5 on April 24, ending their undefeated streak at Husky Softball Stadium this year and marking their fourth consecutive Big Ten loss.

The game was significant as it not only broke the Huskies’ home winning record for the season but also extended their recent losing streak in conference play.

Ava Carroll led Washington offensively, being the only player with multiple hits, while Mila Reddy hit her first career home run in the fifth inning to put the Huskies on the scoreboard after trailing by four runs. Despite giving up three home runs in the first four innings, Washington rallied late. In a key moment during the sixth inning, Sophi Mazzola hit a three-RBI double that cut UCLA’s lead to one run. Kaycie Burdick followed with another double that tied the game at five before being thrown out trying to advance to third base.

However, UCLA responded with a two-run home run in the top of the seventh inning, securing their win. The Bruins had two players who each hit multiple home runs during the game.

Game two of this series is scheduled for Saturday, April 25 at Husky Softball Stadium and will be broadcast on Big Ten Network.

Looking ahead, both teams will continue their series as Washington seeks to break its losing streak and defend its standing within conference play.
