The University of Washington Huskies track and field teams finished their participation at the Penn Relays on Apr. 25 with a fourth-place finish by the women’s 4×800-meter relay team and a sixth-place result from the men’s 4xMile squad at Franklin Field.
The results mark a consistent showing for the Huskies, who placed in the top six in all four relays they entered over two days of competition. The women’s team opted to focus on the 4×800-meter event, scratching from the longer 4×1500-meter race. Chloe Symon led off with a time of 2:08.51, followed by Jenica Swartz’s split of 2:05.51 to keep Washington among the leaders. Mia Cochran ran third with a time of 2:07.58 before handing off to Chloe Foerster, who anchored with a split of 2:05.10, securing fourth place behind Penn State, Stanford, and North Carolina.
On the men’s side, Josiah Tostenson started for Washington in what was described as a tactical race featuring slower early splits compared to typical mile relay races. Tyler Bilyard took over for leg two before passing to Reuben Reina, whose third-leg split of 4:03.99 was fastest among his teammates and moved Washington into sixth position—a spot they held through Martin Barco’s anchor leg—finishing with an overall time of 16:48.86.
Looking ahead, next week marks both the final regular season meets and last split squad weekend for Washington athletes before they compete in conference championships.
