The University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) softball team defeated the Washington Huskies 7-2 on April 25 at Husky Softball Stadium in Seattle. The win gave UCLA a series victory and handed the Huskies their fifth conference loss of the season.
This matchup was significant as it marked Alumni Day for the Washington program, with former players honored during a pregame ceremony. Teresa Wilson, who was the first head coach of the University of Washington softball team, threw out the ceremonial first pitch before play began.
Washington took an early lead in the bottom of the first inning after Alexis DeBoer and Jadyn Glab drew walks and Ava Carroll hit a double to bring DeBoer home. UCLA responded quickly with a home run in the top of the second inning to take a 2-1 lead. Gabi Toney tied things up for Washington with her sixth home run of the season.
UCLA gained control during a decisive third inning by scoring four runs, including two solo home runs and capitalizing on a throwing error by Washington. The score remained unchanged until UCLA added another solo home run in the seventh inning.
Both teams were held scoreless from innings four through six, with strong defensive performances limiting hits. With this loss, Washington’s record at home moved to 11-2 for this season.
The final game of both this series and Washington’s regular-season home schedule is scheduled for Sunday, April 26 at 1 p.m., when senior Sophia Ramuno will be recognized.
