The United States Attorney’s Office for the Middle District of Pennsylvania has announced legal proceedings against Sabino Lemus-Carias, a 39-year-old Guatemalan citizen, following a federal grand jury's indictment for illegal reentry into the United States. Acting United States Attorney John C. Gurganus elaborated that Lemus-Carias was previously deported from the U.S. on May 15, 2006, via Brownsville, Texas. The indictment alleges that he was later found on March 26, 2025, in Franklin County, without lawful permission to reenter.

This case is associated with Operation Take Back America. This nationwide initiative aims to combat illegal immigration, dismantle drug cartels, and protect communities from violent crime. The operation leverages resources from the Department of Justice's Project Safe Neighborhood.

The investigation was conducted by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement and Removal Operations, with Assistant United States Attorney Joseph J. Terz leading the prosecution. Penalties for this violation can include up to two years in prison, supervised release, and a fine. Sentencing is determined by a judge, guided by federal statutes and sentencing guidelines.

It is important to note that indictments are mere accusations. Individuals are considered innocent unless proven guilty in a court of law.
