President Donald Trump has proposed that manufacturers can circumvent his tariffs by relocating their operations back to the United States. This approach, if successful, aims to rejuvenate U.S. manufacturing output and generate employment opportunities sought after by blue-collar workers.
Mark DiPlacido, a policy adviser with American Compass, commented on the current state of trade and industrial policy: “We’ve been rowing in the wrong direction on trade and industrial policy for 30 or 40 years. And no, it’s not going to change overnight. But that’s not an excuse to do nothing.”
