The United States Attorney’s Office for the Middle District of Pennsylvania has announced that Delvin Hutchinson, a 33-year-old resident of Stroudsburg, Pennsylvania, was sentenced to 60 months in prison. The sentence was handed down by United States District Court Judge Robert D. Mariani on January 31, 2025. Hutchinson was convicted on all three counts of an indictment by a federal jury in Scranton following a four-day trial on September 3, 2024.

Acting United States Attorney John C. Gurganus stated that Hutchinson engaged in straw purchasing firearms for his friend who was prohibited from buying or possessing firearms. In March of 2019, Hutchinson purchased seven firearms after his friend placed online orders for them. He picked up the firearms in exchange for cash payments. When questioned by Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) agents about multiple handgun purchases, there was an outstanding order for two more firearms.

The ATF investigated the case with Assistant U.S. Attorneys Robert J. O’Hara and Sarah R. Lloyd prosecuting it.

This case is part of Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN), aimed at reducing violent crime and gun violence by uniting law enforcement agencies and communities. The Department launched a violent crime reduction strategy on May 26, 2021, to strengthen PSN with core principles such as fostering trust in communities and supporting organizations preventing violence.
