Sasha McCoy, a 28-year-old resident of Washington, D.C., has entered a guilty plea for voluntary manslaughter in connection with the death of her three-year-old daughter. The incident occurred on October 28, 2022. This announcement was made by U.S. Attorney Matthew M. Graves and Chief Pamela Smith of the Metropolitan Police Department.
McCoy has been detained since her arrest on February 15, 2024. Her plea agreement suggests a prison sentence ranging from four to ten years, followed by five years of supervised release, pending court approval.
The facts presented at the plea hearing revealed that on the afternoon of October 28, 2022, McCoy placed her two children in bed for a nap at their residence. Upon checking on them later, she discovered her daughter unconscious and unresponsive. Despite efforts at the hospital, the child did not survive.
A search uncovered a small plastic bag containing pills on the bed where the children were sleeping. Drug analysis identified one pill as Alprazolam (Xanax) and others containing Fentanyl and Flurofentanyl among other substances. Medical examiners concluded that fentanyl and flurofentanyl intoxication caused the child's death.
U.S. Attorney Graves and Chief Smith praised the investigative work conducted by members of the Metropolitan Police Department and acknowledged Assistant United States Attorney Emma McArthur's role in prosecuting this case.
