In light of the shortcomings in the strategy of the state of Washington in battling the COVID-19 pandemic, Congresswoman Cathy McMorris Rodgers (R-WA 5th District) echoes the need for a stronger response to the health crisis by calling for improved vaccine distribution across the eastern Washington area.
“Earlier this month, we heard from five states who made (it) clear supply limitations are the number one barrier to getting more shots in people’s arms. Hopefully, our projections for increased supply and new vaccines will resolve this. To crush the virus, states also need to resolve self-inflicted problems. My home state is no exception," McMorris Rodgers said.
The congresswoman also voiced disappointment with Washington Gov. Jay Inslee's decision to halt the vaccination of the next group for essential workers: school teachers. The governor’s intervention came after all phase 1B tier 1 eligible people, composed of health workers, first responders, and other high-risk groups such as senior citizens were administered a COVID vaccine.
“He threatened to withhold vaccines if they proceeded. One school superintendent called the governor’s decision demoralizing,” McMorris Rodgers added. I agree. We should be doing everything we can to get our kids back to school. That means supporting counties that are delivering the vaccine with efficiency and speed."
