The number of COVID-19 cases has been spiking across the country and across the state in recent weeks. In response to this, the governor's office issued a proclamation earlier this month mandating that all businesses must require customers and employees to wear face masks in order to help slow the spread of the virus.

“The better we can protect ourselves from the virus, the better we can avoid repeating some of the painful measures we had to take in the spring to shut down the economy," Gov. Jay Inslee said in a July 2 release from his office.

The Department of Health is continually working to move the counties of Benton, Franklin and Yakima into Phase 1. Travel between counties could increase the spread of COVID-19 due to the fact that counties find themselves in different Phases. For counties in Phase 3, bars will be limited to table service.

“I would love to tell you when this emergency will be over, but emergencies, by nature, work by their own rules, not ours,” Inslee said in the release.
