State Superintendent of Public Instruction Chris Reykdal recently said Washington can expect to return kids back into the classroom this fall if trends in the COVID-19 infections don't reverse, Mercer Island Reporter reported.
The return to school will still include additional safety measures such as health screenings, added hygiene measures and social distancing.
Screenings are also expected to include gathering information on the activities of students, teachers and visitors in order to weed out those who may have had contact with an infected person.
Other potential measures outlined include moving desks further apart in classrooms and having students eat lunches at their desks or outside rather than in cafeteria settings, according to Mercer Island Reporter.
Though Reykdal’s office has offered guidance for schools to base their approaches on, the ultimate decisions on how to proceed will be made at the local level.
But Reykdal told the Mercer Island Reporter he expects schools to return to in-person instruction.
