Gov. Inslee creates COVID-19 recovery advisory groups

Washington Gov. Jay Inslee announced the creation of three advisory groups on May 5, which will help with the state's reopening and COVID-19 recovery.

The three newly created groups will focus on social support, health systems and public health and economic recovery, according to King5. Inslee also announced that the health systems and public health group of the three will be led by the Department of Health Secretary John Wiesman. 

The main focus of the health systems and public health group will be to broaden testing efforts for the coroanvirus, according to King5. This groups will also be making preparations for a coronavirus vaccine. 

“These groups include a diverse group of voices from community leaders in labor, business [and] government to nonprofit organizations," Inslee said in a statement. "They’re going to make the decisions [in[ the best way to collate information and I'm sure they'll be successful at that.”

The second of the three groups, the economic recovery one, will be led by the Department of Commerce Director Lisa Brown, according to King5. This group will be focusing on recovery plans and assistance that ca be offered to businesses and workers in the state.  

The Department of Social and Health Services Secretary Cheryl Strange will be leading the third group, according to King5. The social support group will focus on food, safe shelter, housing, healthcare and equity. It will also include issues such as homelessness and mental health. 

Inslee also acknowledged that certain issues, including homelessness, could potentially be made even more complicated by the coronavirus pandemic, according to King5

“One of the particular issues is isolation ability, too. For people who become [coronavirus] positive, we need them to isolate and we have to make sure they have a place to isolate if they don't have a home," Inslee said in a statement.

The governor also mentioned guidelines for reopening Phase 1 businesses, which will include auto sales and curbside retail among other businesses.
