Seku Sanders set a new Seattle University men’s outdoor track 800-meter record on April 19 at the Bryan Clay Invitational in Azusa, California. Sanders ran the distance in 1:48.75, breaking his own previous mark by over a second.

The achievement highlights a strong weekend for the Seattle Redhawks track and field team, with several athletes posting personal bests and making changes to the school’s all-time top-10 lists. The results reflect ongoing progress within the program as athletes continue to improve their performances.

Sanders has broken records before, first surpassing Alex Franklin’s time at last year’s Oregon Preview with a run of 1:51.20. He later improved his performance at last year’s Bryan Clay Invitational but was edged out by teammate Alex Jensen. This year, in addition to his record-setting run in the 800 meters, Sanders posted a personal-best of 3:56.70 in the 1500 meters—just two seconds short of entering Seattle U’s all-time top-10 for that event.

Other notable performances came from Annabelle Clapp, who ran a personal-best of 2:11.52 in the women’s 800 meters to move up to third all-time at Seattle U and clocked another personal best of 57.52 seconds in the women’s 400 meters, improving her fifth-best mark for that event.

Additional achievements included Jeremy Posdon’s new best time of 3:57.28 in the men’s 1500 meters and Roman Radecki’s personal record of 14:48.32 in the men’s 5000 meters. At Portland’s Larry Byerly Invitational, Kristina Shkalenkova and Mira Danish set personal records in the women’s 800 meters while three male Redhawks also recorded new bests in their events.

In total, Seattle U athletes collected seventeen personal records over the weekend and made five updates to their school’s all-time top-10 list across multiple events. The team is scheduled to compete next at the OSU High Performance Meet from MayĀ 1–2 in Corvallis.
