Seattle University baseball will begin a series against the University of San Diego on April 17, followed by a game with San Diego State on April 20. The games will take place at Fowler Park and Tony Gwynn Stadium in San Diego, California.
The Redhawks are coming off their first sweep in the West Coast Conference after defeating Loyola Marymount at Bannerwood Park last weekend. This marks their first conference series sweep since 2019 when they were members of the Western Athletic Conference.
The team has been performing well recently, winning three out of four conference series and six of their last seven games. After an eight-game homestand, Seattle U returns to road play with a current away record of four wins and twelve losses. Despite this, they are averaging 5.5 runs per game on the road.
Several players have made notable contributions. Travis Farrell leads the team with 51 strikeouts this season and ranks fifth in the West Coast Conference for punchouts. Ryder Manale hit his first two collegiate home runs during the recent LMU series and led with six runs batted in over that stretch. Blake Smith picked up two relief wins last weekend, bringing his career total to thirteen—tying him for fifth all-time in program history for career wins alongside Skyler Genger (2013-15). Kale Hammer extended his streak of quality starts to four games and currently leads the team with a 3.86 earned run average, ranking seventh in the conference.
This upcoming matchup will be only the second meeting between Seattle U and San Diego; their previous contest was held in 2020. The Redhawks have faced San Diego State four times but are still seeking their first win against them.
