A federal grand jury indicted Dustin Badeaux, age 41, of New Orleans for bank robbery on June 1, according to United States Attorney David I. Courcelle.
Court documents state that Badeaux allegedly robbed a bank located in the 4000 block of Canal Street on May 9, taking approximately $1,800 in U.S. currency. If convicted under Title 18, United States Code, Section 2113(a), Badeaux faces a maximum sentence of twenty years imprisonment, a fine up to $250,000, up to three years of supervised release, and a mandatory $100 special assessment fee.
Courcelle said that an indictment is merely a charge and that guilt must be proven beyond a reasonable doubt. He also praised the Federal Bureau of Investigation’s Violent Crime Task Force and the New Orleans Police Department for their roles in investigating the case. Assistant United States Attorney Duane A. Evans from the General Crimes Unit is prosecuting the matter.
The case falls under Operation Take Back America, which utilizes resources from Project Safe Neighborhood to address violent crime nationwide through coordinated efforts by the Department of Justice. The Justice Department serves as the principal federal agency for law enforcement and operates throughout the United States and internationally with more than 115,000 employees across over 50 countries; it focuses on upholding rule of law and safeguarding civil rights under leadership such as that provided by Merrick Garland since March 2021, according to its official website.
