NFIB is calling on its members to participate in Small Business Day at the Capitol, scheduled for Wednesday, February 18, 2026, in Olympia. The organization aims to mobilize small business owners to address several legislative proposals and regulatory changes that could affect their operations.
According to NFIB, lawmakers are considering new payroll or income taxes for 2026. This comes after nearly $9.5 billion in tax increases were approved earlier in the year. Additionally, there are ongoing efforts by trial lawyers and labor groups to make changes to the workers’ compensation system, which NFIB says would increase costs for employers.
The Paid Family & Medical Leave system is reportedly facing financial challenges that could lead to higher premiums. Recent decisions by the IRS may also shift more of the financial burden onto employers. Another concern highlighted by NFIB is a potential $700 million unemployment insurance “solvency surcharge” proposed by state officials.
NFIB encourages small business owners to attend the event and meet with legislators to share how policy decisions impact their businesses. Lunch will be provided by sponsors, and there is no cost to attend; however, advanced registration is required. Members are encouraged to bring guests.
“Join us in Olympia for Small Business Day at the Capital, Wednesday, February 18, 2026. This is your opportunity to meet with legislators and explain how their decisions in Olympia impact your small business,” an NFIB announcement stated.
For more information or questions about registration, individuals can contact Stacy Jenkins at Stacy.Jenkins@NFIB.org.
The event will take place from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. at DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel Olympia located at 415 Capitol Way N.
