Gonzaga women’s rowing concludes Big Ten Invitational races in Sacramento

The Gonzaga women’s rowing team finished its competition at the Big Ten Invitational on April 19, racing against several nationally ranked programs at Lake Natoma in Sacramento, California. The Bulldogs participated in four events during the final session of the regatta.

The team began the morning with the second varsity four (2V4), placing fifth with a time of 8:02.370 against teams such as UCLA, USC, and Minnesota. In the first varsity four (1V4) race, Gonzaga again took fifth place with a time of 7:47.417.

In the eights category, Gonzaga’s second varsity eight (2V8) posted a time of 6:48.357 to finish fifth while competing against top-level opponents. The varsity eight (V8) crew ended the day for Gonzaga by finishing fourth with a time of 6:47.627 in a race won by UCLA.

Throughout the weekend, Gonzaga faced multiple nationally ranked and Big Ten conference programs across all events at Lake Natoma.

Lineups for each boat were also released following Sunday’s races. The V8 included Lula Macey as coxswain and rowers Katie Hill, Marjane Rivat, Lily Spillane, Isabella Barstow, Leah Manzo-McCottry, Jenna Kleckler, Maria Inés Marquez and Svenja Boldt. Other lineups featured Ava Beekman coxing for the 2V8; Maddie McPhillips leading as coxswain for V4; and Kaitlyn Ramirez coxing for 2V4.

Full results from each event showed strong performances from opposing schools including UCLA winning both V8 and 1V4 categories.
