The Gonzaga men’s rowing team will return to the Western Intercollegiate Rowing Association Championships this weekend, making its first appearance at the event since 2022. The Bulldogs are set to face a competitive field of West Coast teams as they begin their postseason campaign.

The return to WIRAs is significant for Gonzaga, as it provides an opportunity for the team to measure itself against both familiar and new opponents in a key regatta of the season.

“We are excited to return to WIRA for the first time since 2022. It will be great to race crews we have already seen this season and some new crews as well!” said assistant coach Kayla Cartelli.

Competition opens Saturday morning with three Gonzaga entries. The Varsity 8+ will race in Race #2 at 8:10 a.m., while two Second Varsity 8+ boats will compete in back-to-back events: the B boat at 8:50 a.m. (Race #6) and the A boat at 9:00 a.m. (Race #7). Finals and Sunday schedules will be determined based on Saturday’s results.

Fans can follow live results and streaming options online throughout the weekend, with updates provided after each round of racing. The lineup includes Elliott Olcott coxing the Varsity 8+, Bradley Williams leading Second Varsity A, Bennett Hay coxing Second Varsity B, and Mia Hyke steering Fourth Varsity.

Looking ahead, Sunday’s schedule depends on how teams perform in their heats on Saturday, adding anticipation for both athletes and supporters.
