Gonzaga Baseball extended its winning streak to eight games with a 7-2 victory over Saint Mary’s on April 17. The team now holds the fourth longest active win streak in Division 1 baseball.

The game featured two home runs for Gonzaga, hit by Maddox Haley and Ryder Young, bringing the team’s season total to 44—its highest since 2002. Mikey Bell contributed three doubles, tying the program record for doubles in a single game. Bell has recorded nine extra base hits in his last six games and was named West Coast Conference Player of the Week last week.

Justin Feld started on the mound for Gonzaga, pitching seven innings and allowing only two runs while facing 31 batters across 98 pitches. Landon Hood closed out the game with two scoreless innings.

Haley opened scoring with a home run in the second inning that landed beyond left field. The Zags added another run in the third after a throwing error by Saint Mary’s. In the fourth inning, Young hit his eighth home run of the season, driving in three runs.

Saint Mary’s scored their only runs with solo home runs in the fifth and seventh innings. Gonzaga secured its lead further by adding two more runs in the eighth inning, including Young’s fourth RBI of the night.

The teams are scheduled to face each other again on Saturday at 1 p.m., as Gonzaga looks to continue its winning streak.
