A man from Franklin County faces federal charges after allegedly firing at law enforcement officers during an attempted arrest at a Springfield hotel. Authorities say Andre Jordan II, 34, of Reynoldsburg, was wanted on murder charges when the incident occurred.
On August 8, an arrest warrant was issued for Jordan in connection with a murder case. The Southern Ohio Fugitive Apprehension Strike Team (SOFAST), a federal task force, began investigating and tracked Jordan to the Quality Inn in Springfield.
According to court documents, on August 14, SOFAST located Jordan in a hotel room and prepared to apprehend him. Officers announced their presence before Jordan reportedly looked out the window. After further announcements, he is accused of firing a shot through the window toward the pool area near officers and then another round through the front door toward law enforcement.
An affidavit states that officers retreated to stairwells for cover. Several people inside the hotel room, including young children, exited before Jordan allegedly fired more rounds.
The Springfield Police Division SWAT Team responded and hostage negotiators communicated with Jordan. Following a standoff lasting several hours, he surrendered without further incident and was taken into custody.
Jordan was initially taken to Clark County jail on local murder charges and will be transferred to federal custody. He is scheduled to appear in U.S. District Court in Dayton at 1:30 p.m.
Jordan faces multiple federal charges: assault of a federal officer with a deadly weapon, attempted murder of a federal agent, discharge of a firearm during a crime of violence, and being a felon in possession of a firearm.
Dominick S. Gerace II, United States Attorney for the Southern District of Ohio; Elena Iatarola, Special Agent in Charge for the FBI Cincinnati Division; United States Marshal Michael D. Black; Springfield Police Chief Allison Elliott; and Columbus Police Chief Elaine Bryant announced the charges. Assistant United States Attorneys Elizabeth McCormick and Rob Painter are representing the government.
