Carlos Jose Guzman-Pineda, a 27-year-old citizen of El Salvador, has been charged with assaulting Border Patrol Agents following an incident on August 25, 2025. According to Acting United States Attorney Jennifer Klemetsrud Puhl, law enforcement stopped a vehicle occupied by Guzman-Pineda. During the stop, agents determined that he was in the country illegally and attempted to arrest him.

The complaint alleges that Guzman-Pineda responded by violently assaulting the agents in an effort to evade arrest. He now faces charges that carry potential penalties of up to eight years in prison and $250,000 in fines.

The case is under investigation by the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the U.S. Border Patrol. It is being prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Richard Lee from the United States Attorney’s Office for the District of North Dakota.
