Eastern Washington University’s women’s tennis team ended its 2025-26 season on Apr. 23 after a 4-0 loss to the University of Idaho in the first round of the Big Sky Championships in Phoenix. The Eagles, seeded fourth, faced fifth-seeded Idaho, who won both doubles and singles matches to secure their victory.

The match began with Idaho taking the doubles point by winning at No. 1 and No. 2 doubles, while the third match was left unfinished. In singles play, Idaho claimed wins at No. 6 and No. 1 positions before clinching the overall match with a win at No. 4 singles; three other singles matches were not completed once the outcome was decided.

Head coach Dustin Hinson said, “We won the first set on three and five, and we were close to splitting sets on the number two match. We couldn’t pull out one of the other matches.” He added, “It’s not the way we wanted the season to end, but I told the team that we have a lot to be proud of this season, especially finishing with a winning record. We’ve really built the program, and I want to be at this level of qualifying for the conference tournament every year. That’s what we want to be and face these kinds of experiences for this kind of exposure to the championship environment.”

The Eagles finished their season with an overall record of 11-9 and went 5-3 in Big Sky Conference play.

Reflecting on his team’s performance throughout the year as well as looking ahead, Hinson said: “I’m excited and proud to be a part of this team, and for our three seniors to finish the way they did after having really strong seasons. That was part of building the culture that we wanted to accomplish, and the seniors really contributed to that goal. I’m very proud of them for everything they achieved this season. It’s going to solidify us moving forward as we continue building with the five core players coming back and adding three new players to keep building for future years.”
