WASHINGTON, D.C. – On June 22, the National Park Service (NPS) announced that Hurricane Ridge in Olympic National Park would reopen to visitors on June 27. The area has been closed to visitors and hikers since May 7, when a fire destroyed the park’s Hurricane Ridge Day Lodge.
“This is great news for Olympic Peninsula communities and businesses and all of those that enjoy recreating in the Olympic National Park. We still have work ahead to rebuild the Hurricane Ridge Day Lodge and I will continue to work with Secretary Haaland, the Park Service and the Olympic Peninsula community to move this project forward,” Sen. Cantwell said.
The Hurricane Ridge Day Lodge in Olympic National Park burned to the ground on May 7, 2023. The lodge had been closed since March 27 for an $11 million rehabilitation project funded by 2020’s Great American Outdoors Act, which Sen. Cantwell helped author and cosponsored in the Senate.
